Butlerstown 10K -
Ger Wyley/Nike Summer Series, Saturday May 17th: 20 WRRs took part in a terrific 10k on what turned out to be a much calmer evening than anticipated. First home again for the WRRs was Mark Langford who ran a brilliant 34.12 to claim 4th place and beat Hally's Comet (Michael). Must have been those new Air Skylons of Marks! Aaron Colbert took his usual 15th place (with a new pb) and was closely followed home by Barry Daly, both under 37m. Ray Power and Tom O'Brien both beat the 40min mark with Joanna Jackman, again first WRR lady home and 3rd over all, on the other side of that mark. Darryl Hale and Adele Walsh both got under 41mins (the latter by the skin of her teeth to claim a new pb!). A mere second separated Des Colbert and Paul Mooney, but who knows what Des would have been capable of had Aaron not taken the only pair of clean socks the brothers had between them, leaving Des with a blister! Hally's other comet, Nicholas was followed in by Brendan Aspel and Pat Giles, whose return was long over due, welcome back Pat! These were followed home by Alan Everett and John Wallis. Next was Bernie Queally, who just started with us on the Golden Mile 2 weeks ago and proved that she must be doing something on the quiet to arrive in in just over 47m, keep it up Bernie...and no, we don't not run events because of rain...we're all ejits! Maura O'Doherty was just over 50 mins and was followed home by James Fitzgerald, David Forristal and Helen Dunphy (nice sprint finish!). Well done to Tara Walsh who completed the 5k fun walk and claimed a very stylish Waterford poncho to protect her from all the rain she'll no doubt have to endure if she takes up this running lark! Overall prize winners were, again Mick Gelly of Gowran A.C. (32.36), Pat Heffernan, Fethard (32.39) and Peter Duggan, St. Josephs (32.53) in the men's and Ann Sullivan, D.M.P. Club Wexford (37.42), Jackie Carthy, 40.06 and Joanne Jackman, West Waterford (40.14). WRRs finishing times Don't forget that the Nike van will be at Touraneena again in 2 weeks time on June 2nd for you to borrow and try out any of their runners for the duration of the race or cool down etc after, a terrific service, well worth a try.
