Monday June 2nd,
Touraneena 5K, Ger Wyley/Nike Summer Series, Race 4: A record 140 competitors took part in the hilly Touraneena 5km on Bank Holiday Monday. 14 of these were Waterford Road Runners, a brilliant turn out, no doubt encouraged along by the usual promise of post race strawberries and ice cream. First home on the night was reigning champion William Harty in a time of 15.27. Some 19 and 27 seconds behind were Peter Duggan and Mick Kelly respectively. In the ladies Waterford Road Runner again had a winner in Adele Walsh who kicked off a sprint finish up the hill and just managed to scrape in front of Jackie Carthy from Wexford in a time of 19.02. Joanne Jackman picked up another well deserved prize as the third lady home just seconds behind 1 & 2. Well done cailini! The first male Road Runner home was, again, Mark Langford who picked up a prize as the first home U25. Aaron Colbert also picked up an underage prize (if you'd call U35 underage!) and managed to break the taboo of 15th and came in 12th! He might be able to give the prize to Helena as a present as she was off up in the big smoke running in the Ladies Mini Marathon, no doubt alongside Bernie Power and Bernie Quelly. Well done to those cailinis! Teacher Tom O'Brien got home in just under the 19 minute mark, while Des Colbert and PJ Irish were on the other side of 19. Paul Mooney much improved on his time from last year to reach the top of the hill in 19.20, proving he's not 'over the hill' just yet! His luck continued later when he won a sock prize in the bar to help him when discerning his left from his right feet! Brendan Aspel, who, only days earlier had beaten Paul in the Golden Mile had another brilliant finish in 19.39. Michael Flynn seems to be enjoying these runs and arrived in only seconds before John 'I think I've lost my keys' Wallis. Next home for the Road Runners was lofty Dave Forristal who easily broke his predicted 24 minuteshelped no doubt by his sprint up the hill. A very close 12 seconds behind him was a flying Maura O'Doherty, who took a well earned break from the books to join the craic. James Fitzgerald brought up the rear of the Road Runners in a timely 25.35. The night's times surely show the benefit of our Wednesday runs and Thursday Golden Miles, so make sure you're there this week. Check out the full list of WRR finishing times here. Back to News |
