Saturday May 3rd
Waterford to Tramore run, 7.5miles, Ger Wyley Spring Summer Series. Oh my God the weather! Surely any of us who ran last Saturday need to sit down and have a good chat with ourselves? What were 132 of us doing running against the wind with the rain pelting down, when as someone suggested to me on several occasions since 'Couldn't you have just gotten the bus out?'. Anyway it's done and despite the weather there was still the usual fulfillment at having finished a race in such testing circumstances. The rest of the Series will be a doddle after that! Joanne Jackman proved that those Wednesday night runs up Ballindud hill stood to her as she claimed first place for the first time in this year's Series in a superb time of 50m50s, followed by the previous week's 1, 2 &3 in the Marine Climb. Adele Walsh, Honor Lynch, Eileen 'Fruit Pastille' Winters, Helena Dunphy, Bernie Laherty and Ann Matthews came 5th, 14th, 18th, 19th, 27th and 30th respectively, out of a field of 33 ladies. Non mention of Kathleen Moran who wimped out on us! The men's section was dominated by Kilkenny men (aren't they great?!) and yet again Mark Langford topped the WRR mens entrants in 8th position in a time of 44m50s, closely followed by Michael Halley and Larry Kennedy. Aaron Colbert proved he can run more than a 10k and took 15th position in 46.01. Ray Power had a terrific run alongside London marathon runner Con Kelliher until Con picked up the pace near the end. Eric O'Sullivan arrived in a minute behind Ray and Paul Mooney less than a minute later with Jerry Fitzgerald hot on his heels. Des Colbert and Joe Ryan were followed in by Brendan Aspel. Declan Harte used the run as a cheaper way of getting to work, mind you it took him a lot longer than the drive would! James Fitzgerald and our latest recruit David Forristal completed the list of Road Runners participating on the night. See here for a more complete list of WRR results. Back to News |
