Waterford Road Runners
Saturday April 30th, Waterford to Tramore, Ger Wyley Spring Summer Series, record entries!

Another night of record entries, as expected. 205 people finished the race on an ideal night for running. The race was won by the very popular Mick Kelly of Gowran AC in 39.39, managing to stay just 9s ahead of the closing Ballynonty athlete Dzintars Klava. Klava was followed home by clubmate Raivis Zakis. This is Mick's second time to win this race, having taken home the cup in 2003 also. Might just be time to fork out a few Euro to put your name on it this time Mick! 
In the ladies event, last year's winner Jackie Carthy claimed victory again, in a slightly slower time that last year. Behind Jackie, and having a great run, was Diane Behan of WWAC who knocked almost 3 minutes off her time from last year. Those sessions she's doing with one or two of her clubmates on the track at the RSC are paying off! Another participant of these sessions and a Road Runner to boot, Joanne Jackman, claimed third place ahead of clubmate Corina Walsh.

Looking at the results below, you'll see that there were almost 50 Road Runners that particpated in last week's run. A terrific number. It would be interesting to know how many of these would be running if it hadn't been for the Road Runner's Winter League. Well done to all. 
All that remains now is to decrease the number of Road Runners that have no club alongside their name. Why not join a club near you? The benefits are numerous and include training together, being part of something bigger that yourself, running as a team in both road races and AAI organised events and of course....more social activities. There's no reason not to really, there's nothing extra going to be demanded of you besides taking part and enjoying runs. At the next race, why not speak to Brian Swaby, James Maguire or any member of Waterford AC. Live nearer to Dungarvan? Speak to James Veale, Tony Ryan or anyone that looks like an official from WWAC! Perhaps you're from the fairer side of the bridge? Speak to Gerry Madden or Adele Walsh about joining St.Senan's AC, based in Kilmacow.
