Waterford Road Runners

Ballygowan 10K - Clonmel May 11th 2pm
Many thanks to race organiser Niall O'Sullivan; we're even used to his type of weather at this stage, almost expecting rain wherever we run! Thanks also to the many supporters who came along, wives, husbands, kids...and mothers of course!!
The race started off in freezing cold rain which finally relented around the 2nd mile (our first of many roundabouts!) and we had the sun beating on our backs for most of the remaining miles. Today it was the turn of the WRR ladies to shine, with Siobhan Palmer winning first prize in the only ladies Vets section in a time of 44.14. She's listed as unattached but I'm sure hubby Eoin has a thing or two to say about that! His own time was a fantastic sub 6 min mile 37.02. Adele Walsh claimed 5th place in the senior ladies event in a new pb of 41.25 and sheepishly collected her prize! Shane Scadding and Helen Whyte were in town for the weekend and decided at the last minute to run 36.47 and 51.11 respectively! Paul Mooney (40.50)  was hot on the heels of Tom O'Brien (40.18) and looks like he might be about to do the teaching from here on! Brendan ASpel, MIchael and Dec Harte all got in under the 44min mark, followed 2 minutes later by John Wallis. (His twins were the ones giving out the St.Senan's 4 mile fliers at the end of the race!). Kathleen Moran and her lovely hairdo just managed to break 49mins and was followed in by Maura O'Doherty (50.14), Eileen Winters (41.41) and Deirdre "don't mistake me for Pauline Curley" Chapman (57.11).
The winners on the day were Cian McLoughlin (Clonliffe Harriers) 30.47, Pat Bryne (Tinryland, Carlow) 30.53 and Colin Burke (St.Abbans' winner of the 4 Counties League) 31.57. Pauline Curley (Tullamore Harriers)  triumphed again in the ladies section in a time of 34.17, warming up again no doubt for a win in the women's mini marathon in June. She was followed in almost a minute later by Carmel Crowley (Bandon AC), the winner of the ladies mini-marathon here in Waterford some weeks back. There was a big gap then back to the 3rd lady, Anne Curley (Donore Harriers, 38.37).
Niall thanked us all, needlessly I think, for coming to Clonmel. We all had a great day and will definitely be back next year with a bigger and better group! Full WRR results from the day.
