Road Runners Winter League Week 5, Wednesday December 8th

Watch those WIT students!!

Don't forget our Christmas 'Santa Hat' run is on next week, December 15th. No clocks this time, no handicaps, just fun! Join us for our Christmas Night out then later that night in Alfie Hales of Lombard Street. Beidh craic mor agat!

Final timed night before Christmas run!

127 people were delighted to take a break from the madness that is Christmas shopping last Wednesday night and run around the roads of Waterford. Thanks to all the WIT students along the route who provided much needed distraction with their various antics!

It's Santa Hat Time Again!
Don't forget that tonight is our Christmas 'Santa Hat' Fun Run where we switch off the clocks and disregard handicaps for one night to have some real fun. It usually also turns out to be a night where some of our 3 milers chance running the 5 mile route knowing it has no effect on their overall standing. We encourage everyone to come along and run wearing their Santa Hats. It certainly proves a fetching picture! All proceeds on the night will go directly to Oasis House, refuge for physically and emotionally abused women. Your support will be much appreciated, so come on down!

Party Time
After the fun run, (and a shower please!) the real fun will begin in Alfie Hale's of Lombard Street around 9pm. Anyone that's there will have the opportunity to enter our Christmas draw for a variety of prizes.
Last year some die hards ended up in Axis Mundi and have this year been banned from the party….not!!!

5 Mile
Group 1 provided a terrific finishing display from Paul Murray and Alan Everett. Alan had a superb run, starting 1 minute behind Paul, and was a mere 2 seconds behind him on the line. Plenty of speed in those legs yet Al!
Third home Frank 'Da' Walsh who was obviously told to get home as quick as he could to change Rossa's nappy, finishing in a blinding time of 28.41.
Fastest on the night was again Mark Langford, but it may not stay like that for the whole League!

On the ladies side, Ruth Ahern showed no ill-effects from last Monday night's laps of Lismore Park and ably broke the 35min mark for the first time this winter. In second place was Marina Power who has run consistently well so far and was the fastest lady on the night. She was followed home by Sharon Sutton, again maintaining her pace throughout the League.

Group 2
The ladies topped group 2 at last! Bridget Phelan, last year's 5 mile winner, stayed just slightly ahead of newcomer Anna Louise Muldoon to claim 1st place. Clare Doherty repeated last week's effort to take 3rd place again.

Jim Bourke had his run of the season so far when he finished top of the men in Group 2. His winning time sees him move up into Group 1 when we return after Christmas! He won't be alone though, Paul Burke will join him up there as a result of his top class run in second place. Third home was Sean Moran who has improved almost 2 minutes since week 1. Well done all!

3 Mile
First home of the 3 milers and looking fresh indeed, considering she was at the North Pole the previous weekend visiting Santa, was Trish Coady. We hope she's learned how to ask hubbie for exotic Christmas pressies. They don't call it 'Lap'land for nothing! Teaching the others a thing or two in second place was Honor Lynch, followed home by a much improved Valerie Furlong.

New arrival John Power was the first man home in a top class time of just over 22 minutes. Graham Coady must have gotten some tips from Uncle Bobby in the last week to have improved by almost 5 minutes. Or maybe there's something in the beef he's being given?! Paul Heffernan broke 7minute miles to finish under 21 minutes for the first time. Keep it up guys!

Marshalls
Thanks to last week's marshalls, Fintan Walsh, James Maguire, Declan Harte, Pat Trihy, Mick O'Dwyer (not the footballer!), Darryl Hale, John Casey and Attie Jackman. We look forward to some new Marshalling faces in the New Year for variety. Don't forget that your help counts as a race run.

Friends of Mount Sion
Present a 5 Mile Road Race/Fun Run/Walk on Sunday December 19th at 12noon in aid of Alzheimers Waterford. It starts at the Mount Sion GAA Centre, with registration from 10.30am. There are plenty of prizes on offer in the usual categories, and in the unusual or novelty categories. It's a great excuse to avoid Christmas shopping!
