Road Runners Winter League Week 10 , Thursday February 2nd, sponsored by:

Birthday's and anniversaries!

2 weeks and counting
With our penultimate run on this Thursday night, things are surely hotting up at the track. The divisions are proving popular, everyone wondering where they'll end up after another 2 runs. This week and next will no doubt produce great runs across the board to jumble the results yet again! If you're only reading about the Winter League now, there's still time to come down and get a taste of it before we close up shop for the spring.

All work and no play
The last few months have seen some terrific runs along the Cork Road. Whether from someone starting off walking and progressing to running, or someone knocking a few minutes off their 4.5 mile time. So, as always, the organisers have planned a great night's prize giving, food and entertainment (at your own expense possibly) at the end of the League. On our last night, Thursday February 16th, we will have our 5th annual prize giving night. It will be held in Alfie's of Ballybricken, the same location as last year. So get the babysitter booked, the wife packed off to aerobics, the husband to the footie, the mother to bingo and the father to the card game and get down there sometime after 9pm on the night.

Prizes galore
The Road Runners have always been noted for top class prizes. This year will be even bigger and better. Our main sponsors, Alfie Hale's Intersport and Brooks Running are in line to produce a fantastic array of prizes across the board. Their support this year has been invaluable, anything from organising Christmas parties to providing bib numbers, and is much appreciated.

Road-works
Well done to all the heeded last week's not so subtle warnings about not running on the road. Your co-operation was very evident last week and we just ask that you maintain it for 2 more night's. Thanks to all runners, and of course to the extra marshalls posted along the road to encourage you to stay on the footpath.

Top man in top gear
An unfortunate side effect of James Sullivan's new running gear was that many co-runners were blinded by the white of both his legs and his new runners last Thursday. One runner described the sight as being what one might imagine their entrance to heaven, a wonderful white light ahead with someone saying, 'keep going, you're nearly there now'. On the plus side, James created a new pb of 22.46 for the 4.5 miles. Not bad considering many 2.5milers would be delighted to get down to this time.

Birthday blues busted in Bahamas
Or somewhere as exotic no doubt. The Road Runners are delighted to wish Bobby Coady and his long suffering wife Trish a very happy 25th wedding anniversary this week. This should help him recover nicely from turning a year older last Thursday. With a bit of luck Bobby might actually relax and not do anything for the entire holiday, though it's unlikely! Congratulations to them both.

Volunteers Required as always
Thanks to all who marshalled so well tonight !
Only 2 weeks to go so if you have enough runs done or almost, and would like to volunteer your services, in lieu of racing for one night, please notify one of the organisers at any night's run. A list will be posted each night of who is due to marshall the following week. For those concerned with running the 8 races required to be considered for a prize at the end of the League, don't be. If you marshall any night or indeed help out with recording the results, we will considered that as a race run and will be more than grateful!
