Colourful game based on older
types of arcade games that are long gone and forgotten.
There was once a time when the Atari was around and one
of the best Arcade games was called Arkanoid. You have a
type of a platform or device or thingy where the only
movement is left and right and the goal is to simply get
the ball to hit your thingy and let it hit bricks to
break the bricks away. Thats all, simply hit the ball and
the ball does it all, bouncing around and picking up
speed. The first game likethis was called Breakout which
was for an ancient atari. Few colours a whole row of
bricks a ball and a thingy to hit the ball with. Thats
all. Then came arkanoid and spiced it all up with wacky
transformations for your thingy and the ball, moving
bricks, marbles falling and the cool laser ball which
could go through a whole row of bricks like a red hot
poker going through butter.
The first type of this
game that came out for the gameboy was called
Alleyway. Fun in a sort of a way but also
irritating the way the ball kept going faster and
faster and the way everytime you hit the end of
the screen(at he top) your thingy got even
smaller. Lets just say it is the clone of
Breakout.
In this game there are
certin differences such as, the ball does not
pick up speed for every different brick you hit
or every 10 seconds, 150 well built levels each
to keep you hooked to the game, every few levels
finished they give a password so you can allways
start at the same level, game has an Arkanoid
style gaming, amazingly one of the most non-irritating
arcade games ever (classic games such as Tetris
or Docter Mario still have the tendancy to piss
me off!!) and its dangeriously addictive and easy
to play, brilliant graphics and its worth the
money. The game can be a bit too easy but 150
levels will surely take ages to finish but the
ball does slow down or picks up speed sometimes
in which way you hit it. In some ways the game is
like arkanoid but it contains its own ideas such
as both games can transform the thingy into some
kind of laser firing weapon to blast away bricks
or types of laser balls to cut through the bricks,
the game also has grenades, rockets and super
laser, its features include alien spaceships
flying around shooting rockets at you or a blob
which swallows your ball and spits it somewhere
else, whacky but fun. Cool Bricks will probably
sell like hot cakes if you want my opinion.
Probably one of the best arcade games that the
colour gameboy can offer.
