Access issue hits a stone wall again, or is it a barbed wire fence?:

Despite all efforts UFRC has again hit a governmental brick wall regarding access.
Despite much effort, the Federation has again had difficulty in persuading Government that our current access legislation is not fit for purpose.
The Assembly Environment Committee has recently rejected an approach from the UFRC Executive Committee for another opportunity to discuss legislative amendment.
Background:

Three members of the Executive met with the Legislation sub Committee of the Ulster Farmers’ Union in 2008,seeking support for an approach to Government on access matters. Whilst agreeing that current legislation was less than satisfactory, the sub committee was unprepared, at that time, to recommend that the Union should support the UFRC position.
However, having met with a number of MLA’s, the Federation was invited to present its case before the Assembly Environment Committee in 2009.
Despite substantial support from Committee members, the Minister for the Environment refused to countenance change, adhering to the view that current access legislation was satisfactory but admitting that it was, at the same time, very widely misunderstood.
