Ardfallen Grove Sheltered Housing was officially
opened by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Ald. Micheál Martin, T.D. on 7 October 1992. Shortly after the opening an official visit was paid by Her Excellency Mary Robinson, President of Ireland. |
The housing complex
consists of a central covered walkway which provides access to each of
the 28 units of housing. |

Each unit in the housing scheme
provides a living area, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Each unit has a call care system wired directly to the warden's flat at Ardfallen House where the warden receives notification of any emergencies. Heating is from a central boiler house, laundry facilities are provided in 2 separate launderies and these is a guest room to accommodate relatives and friends travelling from a distance. |
The central courtyard area in Ardfallen Grove has been refurbished, repaved and provided with garden furniture. This work was done as a result of a bequest received from the estate of Nessa Whiteside. For many years Nessa worked overseas as a missionary with the Methodist Church and after retirement she lived in Co. Antrim. Her wish was that when she died the proceeds from the sale of her house should be used to make life more comfortable for elderly people. Nessa was related to the Peters family who had been part of the Methodist community in Cork. |
