Celebrating the Word
THE BIBLE THROUGH THE AGES

To mark the 400th Anniversary of the publication of the King James version of the Bible, the churches involved in Douglas Churches Together arranged an Exhibition in the Douglas Public Library during the week of 23 - 30 November 2011.
Schools and Sundays Schools provided display materials and there were two public lectures, the first on the Book of Kells and the second entitled "The Bible and Science" given by Prof. W. Reville of U.C.C.

Palm Sunday 17th April 2011

On Palm Sunday members of the Methodist Church, Ardfallen,
 St Columba’s R.C. Church, St. Patrick's R.C. Church
and St Luke’s C. of I. Church gathered together in
Douglas Community Park
for an ecumenical procession for Palm Sunday.

Crosses and palm branches were distributed and the event started with a scripture reading, prayers and singing in the Community Park before then moving on to St. Columba's R.C. Church down the road from the park.

Further prayers, including an Act of Penitence were recited outside St. Columba's R.C. Church; these being followed by another scripture reading and singing before moving along the road to St. Luke's C.of I. Church.

Following a scripture reading outside St. Luke's Church, Intercessory Prayers for the President & Government of Ireland, for those in the caring services, for those who suffer, and for the leaders and members of the churches represented were offered, ending with a concluding prayer said by all present:
"Lord Jesus, as the crowds long ago welcomed you with shouts of Hosanna, we also welcome you, not with empty praise and shallow promises, but with grateful hearts that long to serve you day by day."

The group then processed to the 2 shopping centres  -
Douglas Village & Douglas Court where stalls had been erected  to draw attention to the origins and meaning of Holy Week and Easter and of ceremonies in the four churches during the week.

Those present were thanked for their attendance on the afternoon, the volunteers staffing the stall during the week were commended for their enthusiasm and the event ended by those present joining in the words of the Lord's Prayer & Benediction.
