Youghal

A fascinating scroll, on display at the back of the church and reproduced below, gives an outline of the history of Methodism in Youghal.  The work was first established in 1739 and Charles Wesley visited Youghal in 1748.  John Wesley paid the first of 5 visits in 1762, the last being in 1787.when he was 84 years old.
The first Chapel was built in 1792, this was replaced by the Chapel Lane Church in 1833 and this, in turn, was replaced by the present Friar Street Church in 1880.

Over the years the church in Youghal has been part of The Youghal Mission, The Cove & Youghal Mission, The County of Waterford & Youghal Circuit, The Youghal & Fermoy Circuit, The Youghal & Dungarvan Circuit and finally, in 1966 became part of the Cork Circuit.  This Circuit in turn was renamed as the Cork South & Kerry Circuit in 2007.
