School Hurling Initiative

As part of our initiative to introduce hurling to as many children as possible, a coaching programme has been organised in Whitechurch school for the duration of this term. Each Tuesday afternoon, John Sheehan or Philip O'Connell under take the coaching of some boys and girls between first and fourth class. This addition to the curriculum is already proving to be popular with all concerned and it is hoped that we will be able to build further on this in the future. In order to mark the beginning of the hurling training the club presented three dozen hurley's to the school.

Asian Tsunami Relief Fund.

On January 09th 2005 Killeagh and Youghal GAA Clubs combined to organise a Long Puck Competition to raise money for the relief fund. The Youghal By Pass was the chosen route. This was closed to traffic for the duration of the event. Over one hundred teams braved the appalling weather conditions and pucked sliotars from one end of the By Pass to the other. A fee of €100 per team was collected with all monies raised going to the fund. County Board Chairman Jim Forbes welcomed the teams at the start of the event and thanked all for their participation in raising money for the fund. Whitechurch GAA sponsored a team in the event and were partnered with a team from Churchtown GAA Club. On behalf of Whitechurch GAA I would like to congratulate Killeagh and Youghal GAA Clubs for hosting the event and raising funds for such a worthy cause.
