Our Favourite Poems Written 'As Gaeilge'

Our Poetry

3rd Class is the best The Alien

The Aliens are coming

The Alien

was as round as the moon.

He came in June

And he flew in on a spoon

His hair was pink

and his knees were green

He played a tune

on the digeridoo

As he danced in the door

of his stange spacecraft

He looked so daft

As he laughed and laughed

BY D.Casey

The Alien

Was round as the

moon.

I laughed at him,

Because he

look like a cartoon.

ii

His hair was pink

And his knees were green

He had a teacher

That was really mean.

iii

As he danced in

the door of his

strange spacecraft

I langh at him because

He was having a bath

The Alien

Was as round as the moon

He flew in his new spacecraft

Far to soon.

ii

His hair was pink

and his knees were green

He was really keen

On some pink jellybeans.

iii

As he danced in the door

of his strange spacecraaft

We saw he was cold

'Coz he was having a bath.

The alien

Was as round as a moon,

He said his birthday

Is in the middle ofJune.

2

His hair was pink

and his knees were green,

He looked very mean

And he was only a teen

3

As he danced in the door,

Of his strange spacecraft.

He looked very funny,

‘Coz he wore a cast.

i

The alien

was round as the moon.

He fell in a sand dune.

And found a baboon.

ii

His hair was pink.

And his knees were green.

He was very mean,

The worst I've seen.

iii

As he danced in door of his

strange spacecraft,

It was the scariest thing

I’ve ever heard

BY D.Brickley

The alien

was round as the moon

He made a cartoon

About a baboon.

ii

His hair was pink and

his knees were green.

He was really very keen

On anything mean

iii

As he danced in the door

of his strange spacecraft.

He had a bath

and then built a raft.

I

I love our new computer,

The coolest you can get,

I bet its better than a jet,

Or a brand new pet,

II

I can’t live without it,

I could spend all day,

I’d love it to be may,

I want my way,

III

It’s everything I wanted,

But it cant stop me,

From living by the sea,

And having my tea,

IV

But its still not like people,

Our even like my pet,

I would rather spend my time

On the net!!

I

I love our new computer

The coolest you can get,

It's not as smelly as our pet

But I bet it has the internet.

II

I can`t live with out it,

I could spend all day,

I don`t want to go out and play

Even though its May.

III

Its every thing I wanted

But it can`t stop me.

From having lots of biscuits,

With a nice cup of tea.

IV

But still its not like people,

Or even like my pet

But whenever my new computer sick,

I take it to the vet!!!

Cnag ar an doras

Cnag ar an doras

Is féach isteach,

Bain díot do hata,

Is siúil isteach.

Suigh ar an stól,

Is bí ag ól,

Is conas atá tú ar maidin

Cnag ar an doras,

Is féach isteach,

Árdaigh and laiste,

Agus buail isteach.

Suigh ar an stól

Is ól do dheoch,

Is conas taoi féin ar maidin.

An Cúpan Tae

Mise an cupán,

Táim lán le tae.

Cuir bainne agus siúcra orm,

Is measc go maith mé

Oscail do bhéal,

Is ól braon tae.

Ar ais liom ar an mbórd arís,

NACH DEAS MÉ !!

Kissing the Blarney Stone, Cork, Ireland

Read these poems written by Irish Children

Five miles north west of the small city of Cork is the village of Blarney - its name being derived from the Irish An blarna meaning 'the plain'. Near the village, standing almost 90 feet in height, is the solidly built castle of Blarney. The present castle, the third built at the site, was erected in 1446 by Cormac MacCarthy. Built on a rock, above several caves, the tower originally had three storeys. On the top storey, just below the battlements on the parapet, is the world famous Blarney Stone, said to give the gift of eloquence to all who kiss it. Kissing the stone is quite a physical feat. In the old days people who kissed the Blarney Stone were hung by their heels over the edge of the parapet. One day a pilgrim broke from the grasp of his friends and went hurtling downward to certain death. Since that time the stone has been kissed by another method. You sit with your back to the stone and a local guide or friend sits upon your legs or firmly holds your feet. Next you lean far back and downward into the abyss and, grasping the iron rails, lower yourself until your head is even with the stone to be kissed.
