The Clubhouse

Wicklow Sub-Aqua Club and Wicklow Rowing Club came together to pool their resources, energy, and determination. The result was the Aqua-Skiff club house.

Fund raising took the form of a "sponsor-a-block" campaign and 101-prize raffle with most of the prizes being sponsored by Wicklow traders. Other fundraising events included cake sales, street collections, "name that tune" nights, and a sponsored rowing event.

National Lottery funding and a County Council grant were also secured.

The building work began in May 1991 and all club members helped out. WSAC was very fortunate that most of the skills required came from within both clubs and other tradesmen generously gave their services free of charge. The builders' suppliers in the town also gave favourable terms on the purchases of materials.

The club house was officially opened on July 12 the same year by Dail Deputies Liam Kavanagh and Joe Jacob. It offers each club its own boat house and joint shower, changing, and toilet facilities. It is also the focal point for the August Monday regatta racing - a great social occasion and a major visitor attraction in the town which benefits the local economy.
