Venus

Venus Then

Venus arrived summer 2005 having been reported on a farm, starving and tied to a pile of wood with a makeshift inadequate shelter and no fresh water. She could even be seen from the road.

Venus was skin and bone and her coat had mostly fallen out, she also had a skin condition but despite all of this her tail was constantly wagging. She was a really friendly dog. With care at the sanctuary, Venus slowly put on all the required weight and grew a new coat.

Venus Now

In spite of what human beings had done to her, Venus loved being with people, and in February 2006 a young couple fell instantly in love with her and she now lives happily with them.

If you see or find any animal in such conditions please do not turn a blind eye. Contact the W.S.P.C.A. as soon as possible, you could change their lives.

Molly

Molly then

She came to the Sanctuary completely emaciated with an old eye injury and a partially paralysed left leg. She almost immediately gave birth to 9 puppies. She was a wonderful mother to her pups and pulled through her ordeal to become a most loving and affectionate dog.
With lots of care and TLC Molly slowly but surely began to improve and was able to feed her puppies herself. Today Molly has a wonderful life with one of the volunteer dog walkers. She recovered from her eye injury but still has a slight paralysis of the leg. The left photograph shows Molly as she came in to the Sanctuary; the right picture shows Molly as she is now - full of life and healthy!

Snowy

Snowy was a circus pony who worked for twenty five years. When he came to the sanctuary he was emaciated and exhausted. After a few months of rest, nourishment and rehabilitation, he was restored back to good health. Now he is happily retired in the sanctuary paddock. He has a lovely nature, and after all of those years having worked in the circus, he still jumps and prances to the sound of music!

Joshua
Joshua came to the Sanctuary in the summer of 2002. He was found in a pitiful state on the side of the road, covered in sores, emaciated and unable to stand up for any length of time because of abnormalities in his back legs and feet – he was only able to put the tips of his hind feet to the ground. Joshua was also extremely scared of humans – you could see the terror in his eyes as soon as he saw a human being.

Shortly after coming in to the Sanctuary, Joshua stole the heart of a volunteer who had tragically lost her own beloved horse, and was subsequently re-homed with her. Following advice from the Vet - who had been treating Joshua in the Sanctuary, and a local farriery, it was decided to make a special pair of horseshoes for Joshua’s hind feet. These shoes were wedged shaped and enabled Joshua to place his hind feet firmly on the ground. Within 2 weeks Joshua was standing up most of the time and was walking around the field – this meant that his back muscles and hind leg muscles could now begin to function and build up strength. 8 weeks later the shoes were removed for good – Joshua could put his hind feet to the ground and walk and even trot! Joshua has gone on from strength to strength. Although he will never be ridden Joshua can gallop, buck, and has even been seen to jump a little fence in the field where he plays with Gamble who is his stable-mate.
