Safety Glazing Legislation:

British Standard 6206 provides guidelines for the use of safety glazing material in risk areas. The risk areas are considered to be doors and glass at the side of doors and any low level glazing.

In June 1992 a new Building Regulation was introduced (Part N1 - Glazing Materials and Protection) which makes it mandatory for glass in doors and low level glazing to be safety glazing material. More specifically, glass in doors and at the sides of doors which could be mistaken for a door, must be a safety glazing material if it is 1500 mm from the floor. Glazing in windows below 800 mm from the floor must also be a safety material.
