Parish Historical Note

 

The Parish church dates from 1810. It was originally built as an auxiliary church to St. Mary's, Irishtown. It was established as a Parish on the February 8, l936. The first Parish Priest was Michael Burke (1836-1866). Over the next hundred years, the Church underwent major alterations that totally changed the building. In the 1930's the bell tower was erected. The church was dedicated on July 1, 1934. On that occasion, Archbishop Downey of Liverpool preached the sermon. The Grotto in the Church grounds is dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima, Hope of the World and was erected in 1954 to commemorate the Marian Year.
