Welcome to
Hexentric, a fairly scant ASL page mainly dedicated to hosting LazyLOS
and ramblings about the best tactical WWII wargame
ever created.
LazyLOS
LazyLOS is a little LOS assistance program designed for sanity checking
grey matter LOS calculations.
It is based
on Tom Repetti's excellent LOSaid
document, which reduced the LOS rules down to a simple formula for
me. It was inspired by a dodgy moment I had on VASL
where the LOS rules deserted me momentarily (sound familiar?;>). So
it's for newbies to use and grognards to play with for three seconds and
say, 'Damn newbies, wasn't like that in my day!'.
Launch:
Launch
LazyLOS (only 7Kb). If you are playing VASL online this is the way
to go, launch the LazyLOS applet window and close this one. (You could
also bookmark the applet page by pressing CTRL-B once its open). You will
need a Java capable browser to use this version.
Download:
If you must, you can download it for all flavours
of Windows. The Windows version is 58Kb, but unfortunately requires two
runtime libraries to be placed in the same folder as the program, or on
your path, bumping the zip archive up to 1,871Kb.
VASSAL & VASL:
Vassal is the future of ASL
online and LazyLOS has been adapted to be included in your VASL4 module
file.
The
LazyLOS 4 Vassal page will allow you to download
the necessary and has some brief instructions on how to make the required
changes to your VASSAL setup.
Usage instructions:
It is fairly self-explanatory and if you have entered plausible data
it will calculate whether LOS exists or not in the given situation. Remember
to put in the full level that the firer is at, i.e. for a firer at Building
Level 1 in a Building whose base level is 2 you must enter 3 for 'Height
of Firer'. For the obstacle height put in the full height of the obstacle,
i.e. for woods whose base level is 1 you must enter 2 for 'Height of Obstacle'.
NOTE:
If the firer is higher than the target the results will show 'F>T',
otherwise it will show 'T>F', to show which direction the blind hexes
occur in.
(Usual
disclaimer about no warranties blah, blah, it shouldn't blow up your 'puter.)
Feedback:
If it is causing you excessive grief or wonderment then please feel free
to email me. (Remove 'nospam.'
from my address before sending.)
