3: Setting in.

The next stage is to set in. This is done with a small Gouge chisel.  You can start any where on the section that you have already cut in the stage before.  Take the gouge chisel and place it about twenty or thirty millimetres from the cut line and at an angle of about thirty degrees. Using a timber mallet gently gouge out small sections of the wood to the depth that you want your carving to stand out.
