Soon you will have the oppertunity of silversmithing in the South of France. Brian is planning to run some silversmithing workshops in a magnificent old grannary and wine store in the area around Autignac, north of Beziers, in the South of France.
The plan is to run the workshops in
October 2010.At this early stage in the planning Brian is looking for indications interest in this project..
It is hoped to run each workshop for two weeks and include many trips to places of interest.
Brian has a unique connection with France, having studied silversmithing at the Ecole des Arts Appliques Paris, where he studied with his profrssor Serge Mouille, an amazing metalsmith and artist. It was through the technicques of "Dinanderie" that metalsmithing was tought. Dinanderie is a coppersmithing technique which emerged from the Belgan town of Dinant in the 14th century and spread over Europe. This technique flurished particularly in France. It was originally domestic ware and Church wares which were made by the Dinandier. More recently, in France, with the decrease in demand for copper vessels the Dinandier has become an artist, making some of the most beautiful vessels, art objects and sculpture. There are currently quite a number of practising Dinandiers in France. Brian has developed these techniques for use in Silversmithing.
In the workshop, Brian will teach you to make hollow forms easily and quickly and how to decorate them using the Chasing Technique. Students will be encouraged to use their own ideas regarding the design of the forms. The Chasing technique will be used and students eill be shown the secrets of how to use this technique to its best advantage.
