Jewellery /Silversmithing
Learn to make silver jewellery in the studio of Brian Clarke. Our classes are open to all levels of experience from beginners to advanced jewellery makers, & will run with a maximum of 5/6 students. Classes in jewellery and silversmithing for complete beginners, as well as for those with considerable experience in the craft. The tuition is geared to each person's individual requirements and is based on doing-and-making. The beginner will be introduced to the techniques of piercing, filing, soldering, etc. and will be taken through a series of exercises leading to a finished piece of jewellery.
The more experienced person should have some idea or a design for the piece they wish to make or the technique they wish to pursue. Students wishing to do silversmithing should keep their designs small as time might not permit the completion of larger pieces. The workshop is fully equipped. A small amount of silver, copper, gilding metal, and semiprecious stones can be purchased at the workshop. Silversmithing is one of the oldest metal crafts and many of the working processes are little changed since the earliest days. Brian’s studio is one of the most well-equipped workshops available anywhere. You can make anything from ear-rings, brooches, pendants, to teapots, each project being based on your skill level, the length of time you spend here and, your own ideas.
