Cartoons Having
spent a number of years working in outback Australia as a geologist, Alan
was comissioned by Olympia Publishing in Perth to design and illustrate
with appropriate cartoons and photographs a humorous
calendar based on his
observations of some of the quirkier aspects of Australian Society.

Paintings
Alan Ryan was
born in 1966 and grew up in Skerries. He moved to Wexford in 1998 with
his partner Eimear, who teaches locally. He studied Geology at Trinity
and has worked and travelled extensively in outback Australia. The Balfour
Downs painting is part of a series he is working on inspired by a
time when camped at Balfour Downs Cattle Station in the Pilbara region
of Western Australia. |

His interest in
the environment, natural history and his curiosity in people, infuse his
work. Alan sees his painting as a most enjoyable though often
frustrating study of how light falls across a subject.
An infrequent painter in the past, he intends to
devote considerably more time to it in the future.
