WHAT IS YOGA? Most people are now aware that Yoga is an Eastern practise, dating back hundreds of years. The word Yoga means Union. And all the classical yoga books tell us that yoga is the union of energies within the body/mind i.e. union of positive and negative, male and female, sun and moon energies. For us in the western world, who have adapted yoga to suit our bodies, our needs and even our climate yoga is a proven means to reduce stress and anxiety. It slows down the rate of breathing, decreases blood pressure and promotes relaxation and well-being. Yoga teaches us to take responsibility for our own health and through the union of postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation, we learn self-awareness and the ability to bring some balance and quality back into our everyday lives. Yoga is for everyone it is for all age groups, all shapes/sizes, those who are able bodied and less able. If you have any doubts about joining a yoga class, consult with your doctor first. WHAT IS YOGA THERAPY? Yoga Therapy is the specialisation of yoga. It tailors and adapts classical yoga practises in a very Holistic way to the individual needs of people with specific health problems. Yoga Therapy is carried out on a one to one basis with a qualified Yoga Therapist, who is also a qualified Yoga Teacher. Every Therapy session retains all the basic principles and aims of yoga and includes a balanced set of simple postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation to calm and revitalise the body and mind, as well as act specifically on particular health problems. To attend a Yoga Therapy session, prior knowledge of yoga is not required. FORTHCOMING EVENTS: OPEN DAY FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC Theme of the Day Yoga as an Effective Therapy for Common Ailments.
