Naming of the road
Said to be the oldest fishing village in Ireland, Claddagh also gave its name to the "Claddagh Ring". Claddagh is an area in the city of Galway and its old thatched cottages are long gone. During Norman times only the native Irish lived in Claddagh. The Irish version of the word is "An Cladach" which in english means "The Strand".
