Spiddel is one of the West's most popular resorts. It lies on the coast road to the west of Galway City. Originally, just a small fishing village, it is well known for it's Irish summer school where Dublin school children go during the summer months to learn Irish. It's Irish version is "An Spideal" which in english means "The Hospital".
