After
the Williamite army victory at the 'Battle of the Boyne', they
advanced through the country defeating all before them. They did meet
resistance in Limerick, so they sent for an armour and artillery train.
The
night before it was to reach Limerick it stopped in Ballyneety.
Sarsfield volunteered to destroy the train. His men destroyed the
train and the accompanying Williamite army, thus delaying William's
attempt to take Limerick.
