Naming of the road
The name came from the 1693 "Battle of Landen" in Flanders. This is where Patrick Sarsfield died. He was wounded when he led a group of horsemen in a charge on the English position. A great victory was won but he died on July 23rd 1693 from infection and fever from his wounds. As he lay dying he was reported to say "If only it was for Ireland".
