Clare's most famous coastline, the Cliffs of Moher. They tower 660ft. above the Atlantic - a series of headlands plunging sheer into the Atlantic facing the full fury of westerly storms. Erosion of the great bands of shale and sandstone can result in dramatic cliff falls  but in this view the cliffs are pictured in the calm of a summer sunset.
Some of the layers in the cliff are composed of the famous Liscannor stone named for the nearby village. The stone splits into thin layers covered with the meandering of fossilised worm casts. Prized for decorative paths and floors, the stone can be seen in the foreground of the picture as the capping of the wall.
