A Reader Review
Outstanding Instruction for any level, August 10,
2000
Reviewer: vbrasco (see more about me at Amazon.com
) from Honolulu, HI USA
Hi, this book is wonderful! Written with the intent of
combining the educational text book information but
including pictures, diagrams and language that would
enable one with no formal experience learn some shiatsu
massage skills. I am working towards my massage therapy
license and this book is a gem. I unfortunately bought
this book from a store a and am kicking my-self for not
going through Amazon.com, because I would have saved
money. Oh well live and learn...

Reader Reviews
Comprehensive yet delightfully comprehensible,
March 22, 2001
Reviewer: Caroline Bertorelli (see more about me
at Amazon.com
) from Tokyo Japan
Elaine Liechti has done a wonderful job of sharing her
passion and knowledge of shiatsu. This book is a
complete, concise, yet easy-to-understand introduction to
shiatsu; what it is, the history, the different schools
of shiatsu, the basic principles, and how to do it. The
book is well structured and has lots of diagrams, photos
and illustrations to capture your interest. This book is
certainly the most comprehensive and comprehensible book
on shiatsu I have seen. Apart from one dismissive comment
on acupuncture, I highly recommend this book to anyone
interested in shiatsu.
Excellent
beginners manual., February 2, 1999
Reviewer: A reader from Herndon, Va.
Well written, interesting lay out, packed with facts on
the migration of Chinese methods to Japan and the
evolution of current methods. Photography is beautiful.
Text is easy to read and understand. Hand in hand they
show clearly: how it works, why it works and how to do it.
A must for anyone considering learning this form of
massage therapy for themselves and others.

This is the first book to detail the Ohashiatsu bodywork
method: a therapy that combines pressure point and
stretching with body-massage techniques.

A Reader Review
The Bible of shiatsu and accupressure. Buy this book.,
March 9, 1999
Reviewer: Togane Maegamichi (MMark340@hotmail.com) from
Philadelphia, USA
Take it from someone who knows; this book is exactly what
any would-be practitioner of Shiatsu and accupressure
needs. If your just starting out, or if you've taken
years of classes on the matter as I have, Mr. Namikoshi
will show you step-by-step exactly what points to hit, in
what order for maximum effectiveness, and using what
positioning of the body as well as the hands and fingers
you are applying with. No homeopathic practitioner should
be without this book; I only wish I had more stars to
work with. I must emphasize that I am not acting on Mr.
Namikoshi's behalf, nor do hope to see anything except
more people writing reviews such as this one other than
myself, for that will mean that more people have gone out
and found a copy themselves. Buy this book.

A Reader Review
Excellent, for the practitioner, June 23, 1999
This is not really a "how to" book, but more of
a philosophic treatise (with a decent amount of the
"how to"). More of an experience than a lesson.
It provokes thought as well as practice. This will open
your mind and practice.

Book Review
Gary Washington, November 25, 2000
Shiatsu Art and Skill
I found Shiatsu Way to Health Relief and Vitality at a
Touch to be the best book I have read on the subject.
From it's layout and ease of reading I couldn't put it
down. The examples are great and to the point! A must
have in any home or office.

Synopsis
Shiatsu literally means "finger pressure" and
is a traditional Japanese massage technique which can
rebalance the body and ease both mental and physical
tension by applying pressure to the body's energy
channels, or meridians. Covering the spiritual as well as
the practical, this guide includes the concept of Ki or
Chi energy, the essential building blocks of Shiatsu in
practice, how different parts of the body can be used to
transmit energy, and how Shiatsu complements traditional
Chinese medicine.
