General Introduction

Earning a "Gaisce" medal or the President's Award is about setting a demanding challenge for one's self.

Aims & Objectives

Its about "stickability" and learning to overcome problems during participation in a variety of areas in life.

Programmes

"Gaisce" is for people between 15-25 years. It offers a challenge to receive 3 medals, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze starts at 15, Silver 16, and Gold at 17 years. To receive these medals one must take part in community involvement, a skill, a sport and a venture activity. A personal challenge is agreed in writing. For Bronze, the voluntary work must be 1 hour a week over 3 months. The skill 1 hour a week for six months, the sport 1 hour a week over 3 months. The venture activity requires walking or cycling over two days.

Volunteer Profile

Volunteer adults or teachers are required to monitor "Gaisce" for each group of participants and to agree their personal challenge in writing. These volunteers are known as P.A.L.s or President's Award Leaders.
