Part of Greater Sites

A simple guide to editing video, with your DV Camera and Videowave 5.
Go to Greater Sites
Go to the MGI website
To read more on editing video on your PC go to my Digital Video Site.

The way I use my Digital Video Camera, with my PC.

Using MGI Videowave 5.

The file formats that I use are, MPEG 1 Video CD PAL, MPEG 2 PAL and DV PAL.
If the video that I am working on is for out put to tape, I render it in DV PAL.
And if the video is just for PC I use MPEG 1 Video CD PAL.
I use MPEG 2 if I want to store video on my PC or CDR Disk in a higher quality than MPEG 1.
MPEG 1 Video CD takes up a lot less space on disk, but the video quality drops . But fine for playback on PC.

I capture my video to a separate partition to windows. So in D: Drive I create a folder called Digital Video. In that folder I create five more folders
DVin, DVout, Projects, VCD and MPEG2.I capture to DVin and put rendered video for output to tape in DVout.
Note: To output video to your DV Camera, it must be rendered in DV Pal format first.

To set the capture directory in Videowave, Click on capture then settings, now click on Preferances then File. Then click on Browse and select your DVin folder.

DV: (Digital Video) It is a video format like VHS or Hi8. But unlike the others, it is a native digital video
format. Which means that a DV tape has only a series of 0 and 1 on it. DV comprission is directly done by
the DV camcorder.

MPEG: Motion Picture Expert Groupe. Standered for video compression

MPEG 1: The video standered used for Video CD

MPEG 2: Is a much higher quality than MPEG 1 and is the format used for Super Video CDs and DVD.
