Here are a some important features to look out for in Home Gyms before we take a closer look at some specific models..

Construction : Get a machine with good construction. The gym should be made with heavy steel, and have a stable, sturdy frame and smoothly moving parts. Experts also recommend a tube frame at least two inches square, chrome or enamel finish, steel cables, nylon-reinforced fiberglass pulleys and adequate padding. One reviewer says to check that aircraft-quality nylon-coated cable is used to connect the weight stacks to each station.

Settings : Look for a gym with a wide range of settings, so you don't outgrow it. The machine should work plenty of muscle groups and have a sufficient weight stack for your workout goals (experts say 200 pounds is enough for most users).

Ease of use : Make sure the gym is easy to use. All home gyms offer multiple exercises, but it's more important that you can move through stations comfortably and make adjustments on the fly.

Space limitations : Keep your space limitations in mind; some home gyms take up a lot of real estate. Also, consider paying extra to have the gym assembled, since reviewers say installation can often be difficult.

Weight Stack or Free Weights?
: If you are buying a home gym for convenience then you should probably go for a weight stack. The same column of weight is used for all the exercises and by moving the locking pin you can adjust the resistance. If you want to lift free weights there are home gyms that will let you add free weights and plates.
