Scoil Mhuire Newsletter  May 2011.

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

As we are into the last term of the school year we are busy not only with completing school work but planning for tours, Sport for All Day and First Communion.

As part of the Croke Park agreement teaching staff at Scoil Mhuire have undertaken 18  additional out of school working hours. These hours are dedicated to inservice, planning and staff meetings. As a result the staff meeting listed on your school calendar will not take place this coming Thursday and school will operate as a normal day.

The reverse side of this newsletter carries up to date information on the school bus service changes and their implications for families.

After-school supervision

At 3pm each day pupils from all classes leave in a number of directions from their classrooms making it difficult to monitor all children. Class teachers take their classes to the front gate to monitor buses and cars . Infant and resource teachers are now on a rota to cover the back gate to the pitch. We would ask parents to come to the gate to collect their children as we can then be certain that everyone is accounted for. Children not collected at 3pm will be brought back into the school rather than wait alone unsupervised.

Green School actions

Mrs Kavanagh and the Green School committee are collating information on water usage. An anonymous water survey accompanies this newsletter and we ask you to fill it in and return  before Friday May 20th . 6th class will be running a Cake Sale in June to raise funds for the provision of a water pump for the Gambia Project as part of the Water Green Flag programme.

Transition to Post-Primary

A reminder to 6th class parents that the talk on Transition to Post-primary school will take place on 30th May at 7.30pm.  6th class pupils will have a morning  workshop on Tuesday 31st.

School Walk

Our annual School Walk will take place (weather permitting!) on Thurs 9th June at 7pm. This has become a popular family event in our school calendar and we look forward to as many as possible joining us on the night.

Sporting news

The Rackard League camogie team under the guidance of Ms O’ Connor and Ms O’ Hanlon have recorded two wins to date. They have two more matches this week. The boys are in the District Semi-Final against Adamstown next Monday. Jane Cummins and Alex O’ Connor, both from  6th class will represent Scoil Mhuire in the Schools GAA football and hurling skills competition in Enniscorthy this Thursday.
