Scoil Mhuire Newsletter
October 2010
Dear
Parents/ Guardians,
A
full month back in school already and with the good
weather we are fortunate to be still using our grassy
areas for play. A lot of things are planned over the
coming month. The Parent Association will hold its AGM
on Thursday 21st October. A newsletter from
the PA will give all the information in the coming
weeks.
GOAL
fundraiser
6th
class organised and managed our GOAL Jersey Day last
Friday which raised €618 for the charity. Thank you
for your support.
We
will have our Board Games afternoon on Thursday 21st
October. This proved a great hit last year with children
bringing in their Board Games to share and play. By
donating €2 we will raise money for a “yet to be
decided” local good cause.
School
Photos
Every
two years we organise school photographs with Colorific
from Wexford. This is
totally optional for parents but most families
like to get them. The cost this year has been reduced to
€25 for a full set and there will be different options
given. Colorific will visit the school on Tuesday 19th
October. You will need to send in a note if you want
family members taken together as distinct from
individual photos.

Football
teams
Both boys and girls football teams have
been busy with fixtures over the past couple of weeks.
The boys have won two and lost one game. The girls have
not been as successful and are meeting tough opposition
in Roinn A but are nonetheless playing some fine
football.
Keely Murphy and Sinéad Ryan from 6th
and
Gráinne Ryan from 5th class all played in
the U-14 football county final on Saturday where
Horeswood lost
to Taghmon. Sinéad also played in Croke Park at half
time during the All-Ireland Ladies Minor football final.
Opera
competition
Scoil Mhuire is one of 5 schools countywide
drawn to participate in a competition organised by the
Wexford Opera Festival . One pupil will get a ticket to
see this year’s opera based on Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory and will bring a guest of their
choice. Pupils had to write a piece about who they would
give a “special” ticket to.....Wexford Opera will
select the winner.
Musical talent
Congratulations to Maria Cairns in 5th
class who took part in the junior recital at the recent
New Ross Piano Festival.
Our traditional Irish music classes are up
and running with Ms Anna Murphy. There has been a lot of
interest in the classes which will hopefully lead to
great musical talent in the future.
Book
Launch
5th class teacher Mr Crowley is
launching his latest book “New Ross Remembers” this
Thursday night at 8pm in the Brandon House Hotel. We
wish him well with his latest historical publication.
