Light

padHeavenly Grace:  Artist: Sandra Bergeron.  Jigsaw Pieces: 550.  Size: 15 ½” x 18”.

01 The most basic symbol of conscious life.   The darkness precedes the light.   This is described variously in myth as the abyss, the darkness that is brooded over, the void, the primeval ocean, etc.   Actinism: radiation of heat or light (Greek: aktin - a ray).   Candle: symbol of light and the individual soul.   Candlestick: symbol of spiritual light (Menorah).   Eye: symbol of mental vision, organ of sense (connected with light), mirror of your soul.   Third Eye: inner vision (seen on the hand of the Tibetian goddess Tara - creative divine wisdom).   Symbol of the Trinity when placed inside a triangle ie, American bank notes (this dates from the Baroque period).   Symbol of the sun god (antiquity).   Wadjet eye: falcon eye of Horus (broad vision, Egypt).   The eyes that appear on the wings of the seraphim/cherubim indicate the penetrating power of their knowledge.    Jupiter’s satellite Io was used by the Danish astronomer Ole Romer [1644-1710] to determine the speed of light.   For years he timed each eclipse of Io and came to the conclusion that the eclipses were earlier when the Earth was nearer to Jupiter and later when the Earth was on the other side of its orbit around our Sun!   This meant that it took 22 minutes for light to cross the diameter of the orbit of the Earth itself!   He came to the conclusion that light must cross space at a constant speed [before this time the view was that light propagated itself instantaneously].   Today we know that light has a speed of 186,282 miles or 299,792 km per second.

02 The light and dark personified: the contrast between light and dark, and what it means to human beings, is at the root of much mythology and symbolism.  A return to the light, for example, the baptismal waters etc, comparable or related to the symbolism of rebirth from the womb.   Shadow: the opposite of light (the unconscious).

People are like stained-glass windows.  They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.

03 The ‘Asvins’, two celestial horses, in harness, one light, one dark; the eternal and the mortal.  http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8394844811105390386 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8431552640288551100

04 Goethe’s last words: ‘more light’.

05 Light and Darkness: one of a number of contrasting forces that have been common in the history of religion and chess.  Light is usually a symbol of life and immortality and darkness a symbol of chaos and death.   Creation myths describe the emergence of light out of darkness.   In Chinese yin and yang thought they are regarded as complementary, needing each other and understandable in terms of each other.   Light in the form of candles or lamps piercing the darkness has been important in most religious traditions and festivals (Christmas, the Jewish Hanukkah, and the Hindu Divali).   During Hanukah the menorah is lit - a candelabrum similar to that which once burnt in the Temple in Jerusalem - beginning with a single candle and each night adding an extra light.    Hanukkah means ‘dedication’.   The truth of this religious symbol is embodied in the truth of which the prophet Zechariah spoke when he said “Not by strength nor by might, but by my spirit, says the Lord” - the light of faith.    Proverbs calls the human spirit the ‘Lamp of God’.    Hanukkah is less a tale of victory than of hope.  Compare the contrast between astronomy/astrology, physics/alchemy, mathematics/numerology, science/symbols, etc, or compare the qualitative principles of affirmation, negation and limitation with the quantitative principles of unity, plurality and universality.   Myths and symbols and the meaning we ascribe to them, show us our own states of unity, plurality and universality, and also as agents of affirmation or negation and limitation dependent upon the meaning we place upon them.   The Festival of Hanukkah commemorates Judas Maccabeus’s consecreation of the temple.

06 Banaras, the Hindu holy city, is known as Kashi, the city of light.

07 Darkness is sometimes seen as helpful as ‘dark night of the soul’.   Many ‘feasts of light’ are celebrated in December.   The Jewish ‘Chanukah’ is an example in winter when the skies suddenly blaze with ‘night candles’.   Stars have played an important symbolic role in the Christmas celebration.   The most famous of these is the Christmas star which was followed by the Magi.

08 Leucippides (twins) who were called Phoebe (Light) and Hilaeira (Bright).

09 Divali (Hindu feast), ‘cluster of lights’.

10 Fire: a sacred element which takes many forms - the sun, sacrificial fire, the fireplace, funerary pyres, oil-lamps, lightning and the distant stars.

11 Uma (India): ‘The bright one’ (light).

12 Tin Hau (China): goddess of Light.

13 Tolkien: Lios Alfar = Light Elves, Svart Alfar = Dark Elves.

14 Vali (Norse): god of light and spring.

15 Viracocha (Peru): he came to Tiahuanaco ‘in the time of darkness’ bearing the gifts of light and civilization.  http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4574387786893863155

16 John 1:5, ‘The light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not’.

As for the decent folk, whilst not perfect on earth, they are likely to proceed to the Third Realm, in the realm of the light, where conditions are hugely superior to earth’s”.

17 Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine; et lux perpetua luceat eis. ‘Grant them eternal rest, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine on them’ (said at Requiem Masses’).

18 Shakespeare (Measure for Measure): ‘If I must die, I will encounter darkness as a bride, and hug her in my arms’.

19 Heimdall: god of light who guards the rainbow bridge (Bifrost).

20 The painting ‘The Light Of The World’ hangs in Saint Paul’s Cathedral.   It was inspired from the line in Revelation 3:3, “Behold I stand at the door and knock” and shows Christ in a garden at night carrying a lantern to show that He is the light of the world.   This picture exists in three versions (Keble College Oxford, Manchester City Art Gallery and the Saint Paul’s version).   Drawings by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo from the Royal Collection (England) were put on display to celebrate the 2,000th anniversary of Christ’s birth.  Michelangelo’s powerful ‘The Risen Christ’ is reminiscent of the figure of God creating light as seen in the Sistine Chapel.   The prince of Wales has said that the ten masterpieces depicting aspects of Christ’s life are by “artists universally acknowledged to be amongst the greatest of the 2nd millennium” - and added “I am proud of, and hugely grateful for, the discrimination shown by Charles II and George III in acquiring them”.

21 Light BS: a BS which moves on the XL cells.

22 Light Piece: term used for a KT or BS.

23 Leam: light, flame, a flash, a ray or gleam of light, brightness.

24 Cock: symbol of light’s victory over darkness (a new day).   In the East a symbol of battle, courage and boldness.   In Christianity a symbol of resurrection and Christ’s return on Judgement Day.   Usually seen on top of church spires (catching the first light of day).

25 Lamp: bearer of the spirit (when lit), represented by the flame.   Bible: the Wise and Foolish Virgins carry lamps (vigilance/readiness).  Lantern: symbol of mental clarity.   Often seen in Japanese temples.   Ner Tamid: the lamp that continually burns in front of the ark in synagogues (Exodus 27:20).

26 Lighthouse: heavenly harbor.

                                                      by T. Lee Baumann M.D.

There is no doubting that the principal fear of all humankind is recognition of the anticipated death that awaits us all.  Are our earthly lives nothing more than just “dust to dust,” or is there more?  I had been raised by my parents as a Christian.  However, with my scientific background and medical education, it was virtually impossible for me to accept the concept of an all-powerful Creator based upon faith alone.

In the mid 1970s, a paradigm shift began to take place.  First, several books hit the lay press which dealt with Einstein’s special theory of relativity.  I was struck with the supernatural aspects of time becoming nonexistent at Light speed.  Stated another way, clocks stopped for quantum particles that traveled at the speed of Light.  Although I found this concept intriguing, I did not yet recognize the profound implications associated with this now proven concept.

Then, in 1975, Raymond Moody came out with his landmark book dealing with the near-death experience, Life After Life. This historical text, written by a medical doctor and philosopher, struck an empathetic chord with me.  As a gerontologist and internist (a medical doctor dealing with diseases of adults and the elderly, respectively), I respected the research and conclusions made by Dr. Moody.  I had certainly resuscitated countless individuals with acute and chronic disease, and I was mesmerized by the potential implications that the near-death experience (NDE) posed for the practice of medicine.

Although I was only beginning to piece these disparate puzzle pieces together, the extraordinary conclusion would soon strike me several years later. There was an undeniable, common element to all these phenomena, the proven scientific concepts, and, as I would later discover, the myriad descriptions of the deities described in all the world’s major religious and sacred texts.   Incredibly, this common link was the element of Light.

Once I established this apparent relationship between science and spirituality, I focused my research to uncovering these covert connections.  What I would soon discover was nothing short of revolutionary.  Science, specifically quantum physics, would support the argument that Light (photons) were omnipresent (everywhere in the Universe) by virtue of the fact that they can travel throughout the Universe and time NEVER elapses—a proven Einstein concept.  As a result of this proven concept, it could then be deduced that such an entity (like a photon) could also observe and know everything that transpired in the Universe.  Consider, if you could exist everywhere in the Universe, you would know everything that was happening throughout the Universe!  Further, continue to expand this same concept.  If time does not exist for a photon, or, in other words, the past equals the present equals the future, then you would also know everything that has ever happened in the Universe (the past) and you would also know everything that was also to happen (in the future).  Such an entity would be all-knowing or omniscient.  Lastly, such an entity would also be all-powerful!

Indeed, science supports this last concept as well.  Initial calculations to determine the energy levels of electrons and simple atoms kept resulting in infinite quantities.  Surely, the physicists reasoned, these calculations were incorrect.  As it turned out, however, the infinities were coming from photons of Light. Science acknowledges that photons and electrons are inseparable. Electrons interact with photons constantly, allowing them to jump from one atomic orbital level to another.  This intimate inter-relation between electrons and Light was the cause of the infinite quantities.  To date, the only means by which physicists have been able to eradicate these infinities has been through the mathematical technique known as “renormalization.”  Not all physicists are appreciative of this solution, however, with some describing it as a “sleight of hand” or “mathematical trick.”  The fact remains, nonetheless, that renormalization has proved to be the only means by which scientists have been able to resolve the problem of the infinities coming from Light.

The final nail of my skeptic’s coffin came from the “double-slit” series of physics experiments. These incredible experiments suggested that Light may be conscious—that is, that Light appeared to be capable of altering its “behavior” by correctly anticipating future changes of its surroundings.  We can now appreciate that any predictive capabilities demonstrated by photons are well within the limits we have already identified for Light waves (that is, time does not exist). What appeared as impossible from our human perspective—that is, the ability of Light to predict the future and alter its behavior accordingly—is a normal characteristic for Light.  In fact, this attribute is now well appreciated by any of the double-slit series of Light experiments (the simplest and easiest to understand of these experiments goes by the name of the “quantum eraser experiment”—explained in my first book, “God at the Speed of Light”).

With these concepts existing as the scientific backbone to my new found spirituality, I have continued to be amazed and mystified by subsequent examples identifying Light as the primary manifestation by which God demonstrates His presence before humankind.  Not only is God described by virtually every major religious text throughout the world in terms of Light, but He or His spirit designees (e.g., angels, guardian angels, and other spirits) maintain this radiant form in several paranormal and psychic phenomena (e.g., the NDE, near-death visions, supernatural rescue, some past-life regressions, and even prayer).  Of equal import, science defends that Light cannot be separated from matter (as seen by the electron’s intimate relationship with Light) and Light exists even in the darkest recesses of deep space (over 400 million photons of non-visible Light exist per cubic meter in the total darkness of space).  Indeed, Light is everywhere, just as our concepts of God identify Him as omnipresent.

My final argument for the scientific basis for spirituality is derived from Einstein’s “theory” (now scientific fact) of relativity—that is, E = mc 2.  Science has now confirmed that E (pure energy or Light) is truly just a transmutation of matter.  It has now been shown that all matter will eventually (after 10 36 years) degrade into pure Light.  There is no arguing that even the atheist must admit to an eventual transformation into the omnipresent Light!

Let me close by citing several sacred texts which describe God in terms of Light:

O Lord my God, thou art very great!   Thou art clothed with honor and majesty, who coverest thyself with light as with a garment.  Psalms 104: 1-2.

I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.  John 8: 12.

God is the LIGHT of the Heavens and of the Earth . . . It is light upon light. God guideth whom He will to His light.  Koran – Sura XXIV: 14.

Of a thousand suns in the sky
If suddenly should burst forth
The light, it would be like
Unto the light of that exalted one.

Bhagavad Gitā: XI: 12-19.

The Divine Light illuminates my inner being, and I am lovingly absorbed in the One . . . His Infinite Light deep within us.  Sikh – Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl, First House.

The light created by God in the act of Creation flared from one end of the universe to the other and was hidden away . . . ‘Light is sown for the righteous.’  . . . If the light were completely hidden, The world would not exist for even a moment!  Jewish Kabbalah, “Creation”.

The aggregate of thy principle of consciousness, being in its pure form—which is the Mirror-like Wisdom—will shine as a bright, radiant white light, from the heart of Vajra-Sattva, the Father-Mother, with such a dazzling brilliancy and transparency that thou wilt scarcely be able to look at it.  Buddhist Tibetan Book of the Dead.

Science, once spirituality’s greatest adversary, now argues for the eternal existence of our radiant spirit and soul.   We will exist as spirits of Light, similar, but of a lesser quality, to that of our divine Creator.  There is no longer any need to fear death.  Life is but a short stroll.  Death is only the bend in the road ahead.

Above: from a dark site location [ie, in the country-side] a cloud-like band can be seen stretching across the entire sky from the northeast/southwest [can you see the faint band of light in the diagram above?]   This is actually our Milky Way galaxy.   The stars are so numerous and faint here that they look like ‘milk’, hence the moniker.   Star Gazer Illustrated

It takes time for light to travel from one point to another.    Light travels at the incredible speed of 299,792 kilometres/second.    If you look at a flash of light 299,792 kilometres away, you would see the event exactly one second after it actually occurred.   Similarly, every time you look at the moon, you see it as it was about 1.3 seconds ago, or 8 minutes ago for our sun, or 41 minutes ago for Jupiter.    Because of the vast distances involved in space, we measure distances to stars, galaxies and other deep sky objects in light years (LY).   One light year is equal to the distance light travels in 365 days (and remember it travels at 299,792km/s).    If you look at a star 23 LY away, you are looking at the star as it actually was twenty-three years ago!

Seed of life

And so was ye world created

Seed of life creation

The Seed of Life is a symbol for the seven days of creation.  The first step was the creation of the Octahedron.  The next step was to spin the shape on its axes.  In this way a sphere is formed (see diagram).  Bear in mind that the creator’s consciousness exists within the Sphere, and the only thing that really exists is the membrane of the sphere itself.

  seed of life

The next thing the creator’s consciousness did was to go to the outside surface of the sphere, (the old testament refers to “the spirit of the Creator floating upon the face of the waters”) and creating another using the same process of creating an octahedron and turning it into a sphere.  By creating the second sphere the Almighty actually created light.  In projecting another converted octahedron into a sphere on the surface of the first sphere, you will get the image of two circles crossing each other in their centers, a shape known as Vesica Pisces (diagram 7a). This pattern is a geometrical formula which represents the electromagnetic spectrum of light (for further information how this can be done, check out Drunvalo Melchizedek’s book “The Ancient Secret of The Flower of Life Vol.2”) and the first thing that God created was light – “Let there be light”.

Seed of life

In continuing to duplicate the spheres and creating further Vesica Pisces you will see many aspects of creation driven out of the geometrical structures, emerging out from the vortex motion by this continuous creation of more Vesica Pisces. The continuation of the creation process can be seen in diagrams 7b to 7f.
Diagram 7b being day two of the creation.
Diagram 7c being day three of the creation.
Diagram 7d being day four of the creation.
Diagram 7e being day five of the creation.
Diagram 7f being day six of the creation.

Note that here the seven day creation process ends.  The Seed of Life is fully formed on the “SHABBAT”, the day of rest.  The first vortex is completed and the seed which contains the blue print of the universe is fully formed.

Seed of life is the origin of all

The Seed of Life is a stage before the shape known as the Flower of Life which produces the “Fruit of Life”.  The Fruit of life is the blueprint of the universe; it contains every atom, molecular structure, life form and eventually everything in existence.  Therefore, all things existing can be built from the shape of the seed of life.

Seed of life in all major religions

In the 13th Century, a Cabalist’s group from France succeeded, through geometric interpretation, to divide the entire Hebrew alphabet in its correct order using the Seed of Life.  The resulting alphabet was in fact remarkably similar to that of the Religious sage Rashi who wrote his commentaries on the Old Testament at that time in France.  The Seed of Life is used in all religions and can be seen in many original sites e.g. Synagogues, churches, Kabbalah prayer books, and of course, the ancient Osirian temple in Abydos Egypt, the source of all the major religions and mystical studies.
