Visiting Denmark

Visit to Denmark

Four of us (Robbie, Cáit, Lisa, Ben) and our teachers travelled to Horsens in January, 2004, and had a wonderful four day stay. We found the people of Denmark to be very friendly and welcoming. We visited Langmarkskolen school and we visited Odense , where we learnt about Hans Christian Anderson in a fine museum there. Caroline and Lasse, two pupils from Langmarkskolen, came to visit us in May, 2004, and we showed them our country. Their teachers visited us also and came again this year to meet us. Unfortunately all the children in the schools could not travel.

This year we have spent much time on the internet finding out more about their country. We sent questions to each other which we found very helpful. We went onto the internet in search of answers to them. We all focused on SPORT, MUSIC, ART/CRAFT, HISTORY, CONTEMPORY PEOPLE and A PLACE OF PARTICULAR SIGNIFICANCE.

WHAT DID WE FIND OUT?

To our surprise we found out that HANDBALL is a very popular sport in Denmark and particularly popular amongst women.

MetallicaWe found out that the drummer from the heavy metal band, Metallica, is Lars Ulrich and that he comes from Denmark. We listened to some of their music. Not many of us like it but some of our older brothers do!

Queen Margrethe II Denmark has a monarchy. Queen Margrethe II became Queen on 14 th January, 1972. She is very popular and she likes art. She can speak five languages.

Anna AncherThe artists we found out about from Denmark were Anna Ancher, P.S. Kroyer and Michael Ancher. We looked at their paintings on the internet and read about their lives.

Bering Straits

We are very interested in geography and so we loved the questions on the Bering Straight. We learnt that it is named after a Danish man who was born in Horsens, the town we visited. His name was Virus Bering. He discovered that there was water between Asia and America. Bering Island is also called after him.
