Speech by Liam Shanahan, Principal, at the Millenium Dinner Dance 2000:

A Chairde go leir,

Ta an-athas orm failte a chur romhaibh go dti an ocaid speisialta seo anocht. Is brea linn ar gcairde go leir a fheiceail bailithe le cheile anocht o gach ait timpeall an 'Seanbhaile'.

I am delighted, as Principal, and indeed as a Past Pupil and a Parent, to have the privilege of addressing all the friends of Shanbally National School. Our School can be justifiably proud of its great Tradition within our Community. The 21st Century has seen us arrive in a new, modern, technological, prosperous and innovative era, and our School today reflects all these advances in a positive way. We shouldn't forget all those who have passed through the gates of Shanbally National School, as Teachers, Pupils, Parents, administrators and benefactors, and who have helped to continue its role in providing our children with the best possible start to their lives. Without doubt these are exciting times in Education and in Society in general, and we are confident that Shanbally National is superbly equipped to bring our young people forward, with Pride, into the 21st Century.
