ABOUT MY HOME CINEMA
I first got interested in home cinema when I went into a shop to
buy a portable television. There was a Sony 29inch Nicam television
in the shop. The sound from the TV was super. I couldnt afford
a 29inch at the time, so I ended up buying a 21inch Mitsubishi Nicam
TV and a Nicam VCR. I connected the VCR to a £60 five watt
Hi-Fi. At the time, I was impressed. That is, until I heard Dolby
Pro Logic. I developed the bug, so it wasnt long before I
had to upgrade.
My next system had to be Pro Logic. I bought a Kenwood 7040 Dolby
Pro Logic amplifier and connected it to a Bose 3000 XL as the front
stereo, with a Pioneer centre Pioneer surround speakers. Eventually,
I had a video collection of about 300 movies, all in surround sound.
I could never watch a movie on an ordinary TV again. That system
was fine at the time, but, with the arrival of DVD and Dolby Digital
5.1 sound, I just had to go shopping again! It called for a total
overhaul, including my little 21inchTV. I bought a 29inch JVC TV,
a Yamaha 700 DVD with built-in Dolby Digital Decoder, and a Yamaha
592 DSP amplifier. I also bought a Yamaha subwoofer (just to annoy
the neighbours!) and Mission surround and centre speakers. The sound
and picture quality from this system is great, superior in fact
to that of the public cinema. The whole system is controlled with
the top line 8 home Theater remote.
Since I got DVD and Dolby Digital I have happily dispensed of my
300 strong video tape collection.
They just could not compete with DVD. I dont know if my DVD
collection will be as big, but it's certainly growing quickly!
Now that DVD is the way to go I have updated My DVD Player to Panasonic
DVD-RV31, to make use of DTS whis I think is much better than Dolby
Digital. And my DVD Collection is growing & growing.
