Maori Greeting

New Zealand is maturing nicely since its independence from British rule in the 1970's. Society is so much further ahead than many other western cultures. The Maori has had much of its land returned and their traditions are much respected as well as being a great tourist booster. Immigrants are welcomed and integrate well into society. New zealand even offers gay partner rights.
Kiwi's, you will find are really easy going people. They are very friendly to foreigners and often go out of their way to help you if needed. They love to have a good time when they go out. You will be amazed by the number of Irish bars there are in New Zealand! They are often packed too. Pity about the dodgy Irish music though. make sure you try out some of the local beers like Macs Gold and Monteith's. A schooner is the stadard measure. Somewhere between a half and full pint in measure. But at NZ$3 to NZ$5 a pop are good value. also look out for bottle shops (off sales) on many corners. Here you can also buy some of the worlds best wines at great prices.
Kiwi's love their country and rightfully so. It is one of the most beautiful in the world. You will run into many personality types while travelling. Something they love to do. South Islanders are more relaxed and have a better sense of humour then those up north.
Food is great value too. Smorgasbord (all you can eat!) and B.Y.O (bring your own wine or beer) is common too. You can get great deals for around NZ$10. Their Burger King for example are more classy then other western versions and allow you as many soft drink top ups extra as you can handle. Full meal including drinks is about NZ$6.
At the time of writing this you can buy a sim card for your mobile from Vodaphone and call most of the western world for only 49c a minute. Just make sure your phone is unblocked before leaving home!
