This was a home game in The Leinster FA Junior Cup against Wexford team Bunclody. This saw Bunclody advance to the next round and our 1st defeat of the season. Grangecon were on top in the 1st half with a great goal from Gary Cullen. The second half Bunclody were awarded a penalty and promptly put the ball in the back of the net.a second goal put them in front soon after but a brilliant goal from Paddy Hamill equalised the game. Unfortunately Bunclody came back with a excellent shot leaving the final score 3-2. We were unlucky not to get a penalty 2 minutes from the end for a hand ball. Best for Grangecon --Paddy Kelly and Michael Kehoe,  also Scorers Gary Cullen & Paddy Hamill played very well.

11th Jan 2004.

Sunday 11th Jan. saw our 1st league game in a while. At home to Liffey Celtic, Liffey had the upper hand in the early stages and took the lead after five min. Liffey could have scored more if it wasn't for a fine display from Paddy Kelly in the backs.
The game changed in the 2nd half when Alan Bowens and Henry Sinnot put some fine passes together to level the game. Brian Heaslip took a fine free kick from 30 yards to put the 'con in front for the 1st time.
All could have changed when Liffey was awarded a peno for a hand ball, but for Jimmy Whittle's great save in goal. Substitution made were Alan Jordon for Mick Kehoe and Nigel Kehoe for Willie Kavanagh.
Two more goals were to follow leaving Grangecon to win 4-2
Best for Grangecon Paddy Kelly, Brian Heaslip and Henry Sinnott.

Next week at home to BBC Utd in Shield game.

18 Jan 2004 .

Match between BBC Utd and Grangecon was postponed because of bad weather conditions.

25th Jan.2004

Division 3 side Grangecon caused one of the upsets of the day when they dumped Premier division BBC Utd. out of the shield in emphatic fashion on Sunday. The win was all the more impressive as they had to battle back from an early goal when BBC netted from the penalty spot after Grangecon keeper Jimmy Whittle was deemed to have committed a foul. A stunning free kick from Alan Bowens from 30 yards on the half levelled the match. Henry Sinnott who was celebrating his 21st put the home side in front before the break. Grangecon were now in the driving seat with Brian Heaslip dominating mid-field and Mark Byrne and Henry Sinnott causing all kind of problems up front. The 3rd goal came in the 64th minute again from Sinnott.
The ref gave Brian Heaslip Man of the Match . Others to play well were Mark Byrne & Alan Bowens. This was a great team effort with everyone giving 100%. Well Done.

This week back to the league playing Allenwood at home
.

The home side edged a lead after 17 min. and 8 min. later the sides were level when Willie Kavanagh was awarded a peno when fouled in the penalty box. Willie took the responsibility himself and made no mistake when netting the ball into the net. Grangecon laid siege to the Forest goal early in the 2nd halfand were unlucky not to narrow the gap on the hour when Marc Byrne broke through the middle . Grangecon came close a min later when Paddy Kelly was inched wide with a header from Jimmy Mc Cabe. The Wicklow side's day was summed up in the 80th min when Marc Byrne's free crashed off the wood work and fell well for substitute Alan Jordan who put it in the net. A brill save from keeper from Byrne deprived them of a point. Result 3-2 to Forest. Best for Grangecon Paddy Kelly and Marc Byrne. .

Leaders Grangecon AFC maintained their 3 point advantage at the top of their league with a 10 goal thriller at Athgarvan Villa. Both sides made light of the wet and windy conditions and attacked from the start. Goals by Athgarvan saw them enjoy a two goal lead by the 14th minute. A superbly struck free kick by Henry Sinnott put Grangecon back in the game after 21 min., and 3 min. later a deft chip by Paul Jordan beat the keeper to draw level. Athgarvan edged ahead once more on the half hour but 5 min into the 2nd half Paddy Kelly scored with a fine header which saw the sides draw level once more. Grangecon took the lead for the 1st time in the 55th min. with a shot from Paul Jordan and the same player headed home his 3rd and his sides 5th with 14 min. remaining. To Athgarvan’s credit they never gave up and Kenneth Gill reduced the deficit to the minimum in the 80th min. A Henry Sinnot penalty for Grangecon put paid to any hope of Villa's revival. Grangecon had impressive performances in Paddy Kelly, Henry Sinnott and hat trick hero Paul Jordan. .
