St
Canice's A 4 - 3 Ballyragget 0 - 0
On
Wednesday, May 12th St Canice's played Ballyragget in
the third match of their Roinn D league campaign. Both
teams were
going into this match with two wins behind them. So
position at the top of the table was at stake.
It
was evident from the outset that this was going to be
the toughest match to date. St Canice's attacked the
Ballyragget goal from the word go but a solid defence
blocked and cleared incessantly making it very difficult
for St Canice's to score. After six minutes, Sinead
Maher got the much awaited opening score for St Canice's
when she doubled on a Ballyragget clearance and made
no mistake in finding the net. Aoife Nolan and Emma
Comerford added two more goals for St Canice's a little
later. Aine Curran, who played a pivotal role in midfield,
scored a point from play and shortly afterwards pointed
a thirty-five. Just before half time Aoife Nolan scored
her second goal giving St Canice's a 4-2 lead at half
time.
In the second half, Ballyragget played a more defensive
game and St Canice's managed to score just a single
point coming from a well-struck 35 by Aine Curran.
Sonia
Buggy had a great game in goal. She was ably assisted
by, Eimear Walsh and Aisling White in the centre and
Michelle Cullinane and Anna Phealan in the corners.
