Fiscal year 2008/09 |

Taste of Howth:
Our first fund raising project of the current fiscal year, The Taste of
Howth, took place in Howth Yacht Club on Friday October 10 2008.
Once again it has proven to be a great success and most enjoyable
for the participants, although takings at €20,000
were down 15 per cent on previous years, no doubt reflecting to
economic conditions. Once again that stalwart Lion Michael
Fitzpatrick ably assisted by Aidan McManus, of the King Sitric
Restaurant, Howth put in a great effort.
We are as always grateful to the thirteen Howth restaurants,
corporate sponsors, the Commodore of Howth Yacht Club, and of
course supporters of the raffle and those who attended. A major
beneficiary of the fund raiser will be the RNLI.
Table Quiz: The second fund raiser for the year 2008/09, the Table Quiz night in the Marine Hotel, Sutton, on November was a great success. Sponsorship of Quiz Rounds was secured from nineteen companies. Some 130 contestants were in attendance. A raffle held on the night secured the generous support of the contestants. It is estimated that about 7,300 Euro will be netted for Lions charities which is similar to last year. Concert and Musical Evening: This was the third major fund raiser of the year and was held in Clontarf Castle on March 26, 2009. The evening's entertainment was provided by the Artane Senior Band (founded in 1988 and under the baton of Joe Lynch), Clontarf Golf Club male voice choir (founded in 2002) and Suantraí - close-harmony female vocal ensemble. The Concert was held in aid of diagnostic brain injury equipment for Headway and the target sum of €10,000 was surpassed through the generosity of the venue proprietors, sponsors, large attendance and the performing artists. Well done to Lion Joe Smith and his organizing team. (The literal translation from the Gaelic language of Suantraí is lullaby) This year's Golf Classic was held as usual in Donabate GOLF Club. THe occasion was very successful with 25 teams taking part. Proceeds were down on last year but despite the recession some €4,000. Well done Paddy. Updated June 30 2009 |
