Taste of Howth:
A most successful evening. An innovation this year has been change of
format from buffet type to formal sit down dinner. Some two hundred
guests were seated and a most pleasant evening was in store for all. Howth Sutton Lions Club expresses grateful thanks to the Restaurants of Howth who once again gave freely of their food
and services to ever popular Taste of Howth, now rebranded as an Evening
of Food and Wine on Friday evening, October 2, 2009.
A gathering of some 200 guests were loud in their praise of the
occasion. EU 19,000 was made for Lions charity.
Table Quiz:
A very entertaining and challenging Table Quiz took place in the
Marine Hotel, Sutton on November 26. Twenty one tables of six
enjoyed the night of fun and games. A very successful raffle
also took place. Despite sponsorship being back on previous
years, the net takings for the night exceeded EU 5,000. The format
of two streams after the midway break keeps all on their toes until
the end.
Food Appeal:
The 2009 Christmas Food Appeal was was generously responded to by
shoppers. Three Food Appeals have been held: the first took place
at Superquinn in November and at Nolans' of Clontarf and Supervalu,
Killester early in December. As well as donating a considerable
amount of non perishable food, some EU 6,000 was also donated which
was used for additional food for the needy of northeast of Dublin.
Over 100 hampers were delivered on December 20th.
Over see Lions members and volunteer friends working hard at sorting
the various items in readiness for packing into food hampers. These
in cooperation with the Vincent de Paul are delivered to needy
households on the following morning.
