News Extra  for fiscal year 2010/11

Taste of Howth:

This First of the yesr October fund raising function, was another successful venture with Aidan McManus as liaison person with Howth Restaurants.  Four restaurants took part this year and give freely of their culinary delights to a a large gathering of appreciative patrons. Well done to organisers Lions Paul Fitzpatrick and Richard McCaffrey under the watchful supervision of the long standing organiser, Michael Fitzpatrick.  In line with recessionary times, nett income, while very satisfactory, has been down on previous years.

Table Quiz:

Despite many of the traditional sponsors no longer in profitable business, or indeed in business, and a reduced popularity in Table Quiz's due in part to the iPod proliferation, nontheless this November fund raiser could be classed as very successful and worthwhile. Nett income was back on 2009 by about 20 percent.  To be noted however, was the absence of outside participants other than those brought along by club members. Well done to Secretary Lion Tom Keane and the members of the Club.

Food Appeal:

This years food appeal went very successfully this year.  Food and donations were generously donated by shoppers in Superquinn, Sutton; Nolans, Clontarf, and Supervalu, Killester.  This allowed the Club distribute some 180 hampers leading up to Christmas. Of note was the inclusion of first quality European Intervention Cheese in the hampers donated by the Government.

Over: Lion Michael (Howth Sutton) recently (August, 2010) weds Lioness Maureen Ross (Sugarloaf) at reception in Killiney Castle
