Biography

Ailbe was born on the 13th of July 1964 and raised in the beautiful Glen of Aherlow in Co. Tipperary. He started his musical career at the age of 6 and he credits most of his musical ability to his father, who was not a musician but had a keen ear for music.

Ailbe perfected his talent through Comhaltas Ceolteori Eireann and with Comhaltas travelled around Ireland playing his music in the Fleadh Cheoils (Irish Music Competitions).

In 1978 he became All Ireland Champion Accordion player. Following this he toured England, Western Europe and America. He toured America twice in '99, and is due to tour the States again in 2000.

At home Ailbe performs regularly in Doolin Co. Clare, where Irish Traditional Music is deeply rooted. Ailbe has appeared on RTE (Ireland's national television station) numerous times.

He has also done work with Sharon Shannon and toured America with Red Hurley and Noel V. Ginnity, the star of Doyles Irish Cabaret.

Ailbe plays the tin whistle and guitar in addition to the accordion.

He is a versatile and talented musician, with a unique style, capable of taking Irish Traditional Music into the new Millennium.
