BELOW SUNDAYS GAME AND TEAM SHOT

U14 Feile-Report

On the weekend of July 11th,12th and 13th  Galway hosted the All Ireland Feile. Annaghdown were hosts to St Patricks of Armagh. In our opening match on Friday we played St Pats. Annaghdown  were quick of the blocks and had 2.4 on the board after ten minutes. They continued to apply pressure and were well in control at half time. St Pats rallied in the second half but could not close the gap and Annaghdown ran out easy winners on a score line of Annaghdown 4 . 13  St Pats 2 . 2.

Later on Friday evening we travelled to Galway for the parade. This was a wonderful spectacle with 4000 players parading from Salthill to Pearse Stadium. The captain of each team was introduced to the president of the GAA Mr Sean Kelly.

An early start on Saturday morning and  Kilmacud Crookes from Dublin were the opposition. This game had everything. The Dublin boys were first to score before Annaghdowns Niall Farragher found the net for a great goal. The game ebbed and flowed with the Dublin champions leading by two points at half time. Two quick points after the break brought the sides level and from there to the finish it was nip and tuck. The Dublin boys again took the lead and again our boys responded.

With time almost up we were one point down when we were awarded a free on the 45m line close to the sideline. Sadly the free went agonisely wide. Final score Annaghdown 1 . 5    Kilmacud   0. 9. Our final match was against Claregalway. We fielded a very inexperienced side for this game and won the game on a score line of Annaghdown 0.13 Claregalway 3.3. Kilmacud won out the group and went on to win the competition. Later on Saturday evening Fr Martin Newell said a special mass for all the players. This was followed by a disco in the hall. A number of presentations were made to the captions and team management of both St Pats and Annaghdown on the night. The St Pats team returned home to Armagh on Sunday morning with very happy memories of their visit to Annaghdown.

THE ACTION FROM CREGG AS WE PLAYED COROFIN IN U-14

 FEILE 2003 FOOTBALL

Last Saturday Annaghdown hosted group “C” of the feile nOg blitz. We were hosts to Salthill and Oughterard. In our opening match we played Salthill. This was a very well contested game throughout, with Annaghdown leading by 3 points at half time. A goal early in the second half brought Salthill back into the game and from there to the finish it was nip and tuck, with a late Salthill goal separating the sides in the finish. Our second match was against Oughterard. Here we played some fine football and emerged victories by 6 points. In the third match Salthill played Oughterard who produced the performance of their lives to beat Salthill by 3 points. As all three teams had finished on the same points they had to go and play each other again. Annaghdown played Salthill in the first play off. in this match Annaghdown played

Some superb football winning by 5 points in the end. In our next play off match we played Oughterard. This was a very tight game with Annaghdown coming out on top by 3 points. From there we travelled to Corofin where we faced Dunmore. This again was a very tight game with Dunmore taking an early lead. Annaghdown responded with 3 fine points. Dunmore again took the take the lead only for Annaghdown to hit back with a goal late in the game to leave only the minimum between the sides. Try as we did the equaliser would not come, and Dunmore held out for a deserved one-point victory. This tourment had everything that could be asked for in football, commitment, sportsmanship, quality scores and drama in abundance. Well done to the team for they can be very proud of their achievements as they played their hearts out in every game.
