LIMERICK SENIOR HURLING TEAM ALL-IRELAND CHAMPIONS 1973

Limerick won the All-Ireland hurling championship in 1973. The goalkeeper that year was Tournafulla native Seamus Horgan. The road to Croke Park was an eventful one that year. The first game was played in Thurles in June '73. Limerick beat Clare by two points. Next up was the Munster final against Tipperary and again Limerick won. The following Sunday they beat London in a match played in Ennis. The All-Ireland was held on the 3rd of September 1973 and Kilkenny were Limerick's opponents. The teams were lead out on the pitch by the Artane Boys Band where over 60,000 fans were waiting. After a gruelling match Limerick were the victors and brought the McCarthy cup home to the County for the first time in 33 years. Limerick was a mass of green & white flags and bonfires as people all over the County celebrated!!
