Californian Wine

Having traveled through the Coastline and San Francisco in America and discovered several wine regions close by, but the best known of these is the Napa Valley and Sonoma County. They are within distance of San Francisco and admired throughout the world for the quality of their wines.

The Californian climate is largely Mediterranean which is dry sunny and warm, which helps the grape to grow and keep many diseases way. The effect of sea breezes off the Pacific Ocean is often good for the two mountains range the Coastal Range and Sierra Nevada Range.

Wappo Indians, meaning of land of plenty originally settled the Napa Valley. The First wines were planted in the early 19th Century. In many years the region has suffered from various setbacks, including several devastating outbreaks of phylloxera and the several effects of prohibition during the 1920. Today Californian wines the Napa valley is the most largest producers in the wine industry having a production of 90% of the in North America that makes it the fourth largest wine produced in the world. With the huge growth in the wine Industry in many years the increase from a mere 25 in 1960 to the currant 250 or so. The Napa Valley is well known for extraordinary range of beautiful wine styles, which can range from rich red wines with soft tannins and intense fruit, to spicy zinfandels and rich cream chardonnags.
The Napa Valley is a very popular holiday and tourist area with lots of accommodation ranging from Victorian bed & breakfast Inns with luxurious golf resorts, and significant food and wine festival happenings throughout the year.

 
The Sonoma County is North of San Francisco and is West of the Napa Valley close to the Pacific Coast. The Sonoma is overall quieter and has smaller wineries then the Napa Valley. Its has cooler climate with offshore breezes make it ideal for growing more delicate grape varieties.
