About Geography Assignments

Dear Colleague,
I would like to inform you of an atlas resource booklet on physical geography for 5th and 6th classes which I have compiled, based on teaching experience with that age-group over a long period of time. It consists of wordsearches, 'blockbusters' anagrams, crosswords, map co-ordinates and other puzzles, designed to improve and develop children's knowledge of physical geography.
These educational wordsearches are different to most other wordsearches insofar as that each contains a 'secret message' relevant to the topic. As well as adding to the intrigue for the children, the message cannot be found if the entire task has not been completed, thus making simplicity of its marking.
The 'blockbusters' section appeals to children on account of the one-word answer element (about which most of us teachers naturally have reservations) but it does involve a good deal of investigative work in the atlas.
'Geography Assignments' lends itself to collaborative work in pairs or alternatively may be used as a challenge to more able children working alone. It is also very suitable for homework assignments, as it may be used as a stand-alone topic or as reinforcement of work done in class. With its answer-book, it is available only to teachers. Many teachers feel that the 'baby was thrown out with the bath-water' in the rush to environmental geography and I feel that this booklet goes some way to redressing the balance.
It consists of 27 assignments based on Irish geography for 5th class and 25 assignments based on European and World geography. There are an additional 8 assignments (4 for each class) to be found under the heading of Free Downloads. These samples may be downloaded, printed and photocopied for the class and will give a flavour of the contents.
Given the fact that a 5th class pupil could use this booklet for two years, the price of £2.50 (+P&P) is modest and represents excellent value. The answer book is free with orders of 10+.
